Lufthansa Group will take delivery of the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, starting in 2019, which will feature new seats on short- and medium-haul routes.

The new seats are designed for ergonomic pressure distribution, with the literature pocket being horizontally designed to allow for slimmer backrests. Passengers can now be seated at a 20-degree recline for the duration of the flight, with business-class passengers able to set the backrest to 26 degrees at cruising altitude.

Paul Estoppey, head of product cabin, Lufthansa Group Hub Airlines, says: "A lot of customer feedback went into designing the seat and we are pleased to have already received a lot of positive feedback on the implemented features over the course of the project.”

Italian manufacturer Geven won the contract for production of the seats, which will be introduced as standardised seats on network airlines Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian Airlines.

This is part of Lufthansa Group’s standardisation of the Airbus A320 fleet, which will allow aircraft to be converted with little effort, and in a shorter time, if the aircraft is transferred between different airlines within the group.
