Royal Caribbean International’s Mariner of the Seas has undergone a $90m (R1,07bn) makeover, with sailings starting in June.

Passengers can experience the new bunjee trampoline attraction, ‘SkyPad’, where, with the help of virtual reality goggles, they can bounce over moon craters or compete in intergalactic games. Other new attractions include ‘The Perfect Storm’, a duo of racing waterslides; glow-in-the-dark laser tag; an escape-room called ‘Puzzle Break: The Observatorium’; and a 12-metre-long ‘Flow Rider’ surf simulator.

New nightlife offerings include ‘Bamboo Room’, a Polynesian-themed retro lounge and bar, serving handcrafted cocktails; and the ‘Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade’, which broadcasts live sporting events and serves wings, sliders, and other drinks.

Dining options will include ‘Jamie’s Italian’ and ‘Izumi Itachi and Sushi’.

Mariner of the Seas will continue to offer an array of signature Royal Caribbean experiences, including a Studio B ice-skating rink, a 12-metre rock-climbing wall, a nine-hole miniature golf course, three pools, a full-size basketball court and ‘Dive-In’ poolside, outdoor movie nights.

There will be three- and four-night Bahamas cruises from Port Miami to Nassau and CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination.
