Flights to Harare International Airport (recently renamed Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport) are continuing as scheduled, despite the military operation that has disrupted many day-to-day operations in the Zimbabwean capital.

No flights have been cancelled at present and two flights departed this morning – namely Air Zimbabwe UM467 and SAA flight SA25, which departed at 07h36 and 07h25 respectively.

While US and Canadian authorities have told their citizens living in Zimbabwe to remain indoors today until the situation stabilises, spokesperson for the South African Department of International Relations and Co-operation, Clayton Monyela, told 702 this morning that South African nationals currently in Zimbabwe could go about their day as normal, but are urged to keep in touch with the South African embassy in Harare to receive regular updates.

10h00: Zim military takes over security checks at Harare Airport

Armed forces have taken over the security checks at Harare International Airport, sources on the ground have told TAM.

Kagiso Dumasi, commercial manager: Africa at BCD Travel, says travellers are advised to aim to be at the airport at least four hours before their departure times. "However, I have touched based with our Zimbabwe office and there is calm in the city," Dumasi added.
