UberX launches in Dubai Today's News

Uber launched UberX, its lowest cost service, in Dubai on April 17, following an agreement with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

UberX will gradually roll out over a trial period of three months, starting with a limited number of vehicles and expanding to more vehicles and drivers.

With the launch of UberX, Uber aims to provide travellers in Dubai access to affordable travel, offering a cheaper alternative to the current UberSELECT tier.

Previously, Uber was not able to offer it lowest cost service in Dubai as transport regulations require private hire cars to charge rates 30% higher than regular taxis.

At the end of the trial period, Uber and the RTA will evaluate the system and decide whether or not to launch UberX permanently.

The pricing of UberX will include an AED5 (R18) base fare, with additional costs of AED1,37 (R5) per km or AED0,4 (R2) per minute.
